Conservatorships

A housing authority conservatorship over a property means the housing authority has been put in charge of taking care of that property because the owner can’t or won’t do it.

This can happen when:

  • A property is abandoned, falling apart, or unsafe.
  • The owner isn’t taking care of it and it’s causing problems in the neighborhood.

The court gives the housing authority permission to:

  • Fix it up , demo, or clean it,
  • Manage or rent it out,
  • Or even prepare it for sale, depending on what the court allows.

The owner still owns the property, but the housing authority steps in temporarily to protect the property and the community.
